15 FEBRUARY 2013 (Toronto, ON) – Metal Gods Megadeth have today announced the June 2013 release of SUPER COLLIDER via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. In the 30 years since the band’s inception, Megadeth have sold more than 38 million albums worldwide and garnered eleven Grammy nominations—but the band’s founder, leader, lyricist and primal guitar-slinger Dave Mustaine feels the best is still to come with Super Collider. Mustaine, along with bassist Dave Ellefson, drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick, are presently completing work in their San Diego studio on this, the band’s 14th studio album.
Super Collider is the band’s first release through Mustaine’s new label, Tradecraft, which has signed an exclusive worldwide deal with Universal Music. “It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal,” said Mustaine . “It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from a Universal label. If Megadeth being here isn’t satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world as well.”
With a newfound energy, Mustaine is raring to go; preparing for his latest tour, and recently marking the 20th anniversary of their best-selling albumCountdown to Extinction. Mustaine added, “Shawn, Chris and David have all been feverishly contributing some great music and I believe we are doing our best work ever together in the studio right now!”
Mustaine formed Megadeth in Los Angeles in 1983 and, with a string of five consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums, they became one of the biggest bands of the mid-’80s and ’90s. Their repertoire boasts such arena anthems as “Symphony of Destruction”, “Peace Sells, But Who’s Buying”, “Holy Wars”, “Sweating Bullets”, “Trust”, “Almost Honest”, “Use The Man” and “A Secret Place”.
With the recent acquisition of EMI, Universal Music unites Megadeth’s classic, 14-year, seven-album catalogue with what is yet to come. The band’s rich history is comprised of gold and multi-platinum records, including Countdown to Extinction, Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?, So Far, So Good…So What?, Rust in Peace, Youthanasia, and Cryptic Writings.
